Summary

When one observes the theological and philosophical collapse among many members of the Church, even some of the higher levels of the Magisterium, as the result of centuries of philosophical and theological decay, one is struck by the lack of rational principles governing the reasoning process in philosophy and theology. This is nowhere more evidenced than in relation to the principle of the integral good as it governs theological discussions in key areas of morality, ecclesiology, and cosmology. The resulting confusion among the various members of the Church regarding key doctrinal questions has lead to widespread error. For this reason, it is necessary to discuss in detail the principle of the integral good so that it can be properly understood and applied.

The application of a principle in concrete requires several things to come together in order that it may be done properly. The first is one must understand the terms of the principle itself. Without a proper understanding of those terms, the formulation of the principle will not seem self-evident. Second, one must know the proper formulation or various formulations of the principle to understand it in depth. Third, one must have a proper grasp of the circumstances in order to apply the right principle properly. Fourth, one must have sufficient intellectual habits to be able to apply the principle in the concrete. Therefore, this book will follow the following format: 1) discussion of the principle, some of the relevant terms as well as the various formulations of the principle of the integral good; 2) a discussion of the application of this principle in various areas of philosophy and theology while noting the circumstances in those two sciences, viz. in the areas of morality, ecclesiology, and evolution.

Fr. Chad Ripperger, Ph.D. is a theologian, Thomistic psychologist, philosopher, author, and exorcist. Father Ripperger was originally ordained in 1997, as a member of the Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter (FSSP). He now has his own society, the Doloran Fathers, also known as the Society of the Most Sorrowful Mother, which is located in the archdiocese of Denver. He has a Ph.D. in philosophy and a master's degree in theology from Holy Apostles Seminary in Cromwell, Connecticut. Ripperger has developed a stellar reputation as a stalwart defender of Catholic tradition. He has an outspoken, no-nonsense approach to the Faith, which many of the faithful see as a breath of fresh air.

Thank you Fr Ripperger for your clear, concise and precise writing. As I understand, the principle of the integral good states that all of thing is good for it to be good. Any defect or evil makes a thing/act evil. A little leaven leavens the whole loaf. With a moral act there are three parts: (1) the act itself (2) one’s intention in performing the act (3) circumstances surrounding the act –who/what/when/where/how/what for. All three parts in their entirety must be good or the act is evil. The modernists tell us that all that matters is one’s intention which of course opens the door to anything goes; for instance. with homosexual “marriage” the homosexual act doesn’t matter only two people loving one another (intention) so say the modernists. Knowledge of this principle of the integral good arms us with the fullness of the truth in combating modernist bilge. Father Ripperger also takes this principle and applies it to beauty in art/movies/music; ecclesiology (why indifferentism is wrong); and evolution. Father Ripperger dispels the fog created by the modernist war against the Church with the bedazzling clarity of TRUTH.(mainly using the teachings of the great gift given to the Church of the Angelic Doctor St Thomas Aquinas) Viva Cristo Rey!

Refreshingly thoughtful, and challenging book.

I first have to admit that I am part of the laity that will have to continue my own research to fully appreciate the gravity and depth of this book. This book is a part of larger conversations that I will do my best to understand.

I am grateful for this particular book and the author for diligently helping me to understand God and the good that comes from Him, and how I might possibly put into practice the principle therein in regards to Holy morality, Christ's church, and God's creation. Thank you. I pray that I have a clearer understanding and practice that honors God.
